Start With Mobile Tile Buttons
Give your notes room to stand out before tackling harder charts. Funky Friday mobile settings let you simplify the screen, adjust note readability, and reduce distractions while tapping. Start with touch controls, then tune the visuals and scroll speed around what you can comfortably read.
Open Settings and enable Mobile Tile Buttons. Use these as your starting point for touch play; keyboard layouts such as DFJK are aimed at keyboard input.
Keybinds and arrow skins are also located under Settings. Once your controls feel comfortable, choose an arrow skin whose shapes you can recognize quickly. Keep the focus on distinguishing lanes and following hold notes.

Reduce Visual Clutter and Performance Load
On a phone, start by hiding scenery and effects that compete with your chart. These settings are especially useful when busy backgrounds make arrows hard to follow or gameplay feels choppy.

| Setting | Recommended value | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Hide Lobby | On | Removes lobby scenery from view |
| Hide Map | On | Hides the map during battles and simplifies the background |
| Disable Opponent Arrows | On | Prevents opponent arrow generation |
| Toggle Spectate Mode | Off | Follows the mobile optimization setup |
| Toggle Materials | Off | Removes decorative material rendering |
| Toggle Shadows | Off | Removes object shadows |
| Toggle Props | Off | Reduces decorative scene clutter |
| Hide Spectators | On | Hides spectators and their chat bubbles |
| Toggle Camera Movement | Off | Stops the camera from shifting focus between performers |
| Toggle Camera Directional Movement | Off | Removes camera movement tied to animation direction |
Disable Opponent Arrows is worth trying when dense charts feel particularly rough. It removes the other player's notes from the screen so you can concentrate on your own lanes.
If seated characters still draw your attention, enable Hide Seated Players too. Choose a restrained animation: large, busy animations can interfere with your view even after you hide the map and spectators.
Adjust Scroll Speed, Size, and Direction

Arrow Speed defaults to 1. Higher values make arrows travel faster, while lower values slow them down. Test changes in solo play, using a song you already know so unfamiliar patterns do not overwhelm the comparison.
Adjust in small steps, such as 0.1, and replay before changing it again. Increase the speed if notes feel crowded together; lower it if you cannot read the next pattern in time. Avoid copying a fast setting simply because another player uses it.
Then adjust the rest of the lane display:
- Arrow size: Try a size that makes individual notes easy to distinguish without making the lanes feel crowded.
- Lane offset: Adjust it if the lane placement feels too close or uncomfortable to read.
- Middle Scroll: Try centering your arrows to concentrate your attention in one area.
- Down Scroll: Enable it for notes traveling from top to bottom, or leave it off for upward scrolling.
- Scroll Underlay Transparency: Try 0 to 0.6 for a stronger background behind your notes. 0 is fully opaque; 1 is transparent.
Middle Scroll controls horizontal placement, while Down Scroll controls travel direction. You can use centered lanes with either direction.
Keep Useful Feedback and Remove Distracting Effects
Keep Info Bar enabled to see accuracy, misses, and combo while testing your setup. Use Judgement Statistics for additional feedback. If the display feels crowded, choose between Info Bar and Toggle Accuracy Gauge instead of keeping both visible.

Turn off Toggle Note Effect if animated hit effects pull your attention away from incoming notes. Disable Arrow Glow Speed if the strong glow on key presses makes the receptors harder to watch.
Switch off Missed Note Sound if each mistake interrupts your concentration. Leave enough useful feedback visible to recognize a troublesome pattern, without filling the screen with competing indicators.
Enable Toggle Ghost Tapping if you want empty taps between notes to avoid counting as misses. It does not rescue missed notes or every wrong-lane input, so keep practicing deliberate taps rather than mashing.
Leave Timing Offsets Alone Until You Need Them
Arrow Offset delays arrow generation, while Hitbox Offset delays the hitbox. Leave both unchanged unless you are addressing a timing offset problem. Another player's offset value is not a shortcut to better accuracy.
Before adjusting either setting, settle on a readable scroll speed and replay a familiar chart. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped.
Keep Modcharts off while learning ordinary patterns, then enable them when you can handle their added complexity. Practice songs slightly beyond your comfort zone, rotate through different patterns, and take breaks before your hands hurt.
