How to Change Your Controls

Funky Friday keybinds let you move each lane onto keys that feel comfortable to reach. Open Settings to find the keybind and arrow skin controls. Choose the key mode you play, remap its lanes, and save your changes.

Inside the Arrow Customization menu:

  1. Select the Customize tab.
  2. Choose your key mode from the sidebar, such as 4 Keys, 5 Keys, or 6 Keys.
  3. Select the arrow you want to change.
  4. Open the Keybinds subtab.
  5. Use the left window to add a binding. Review the active bindings in the right window, and select Delete beside any you want to remove.
  6. Repeat for the remaining arrows, then select Save.

The Reset button restores the default settings. Use it if you want to start your configuration over.

Make sure you edit the intended key mode: selecting 4 Keys opens that configuration, while the other modes have their own layouts. Review each arrow’s active bindings before saving, especially when replacing an existing setup.

Default Keyboard Controls for Every Key Mode

The four-lane layout supports both letter keys and directional arrows. Modes with more lanes spread their default controls across the keyboard, with Space filling the center position in the five-, seven-, and nine-key layouts.

Key ModeDefault Bindings in Lane Order
4 KeysA / Left Arrow, S / Down Arrow, W / Up Arrow, D / Right Arrow
5 KeysD, F, Space, J, K
6 KeysS, D, F, J, K, L
7 KeysS, D, F, Space, J, K, L
8 KeysA, S, D, F, J, K, L, Semicolon
9 KeysA, S, D, F, Space, J, K, L, Semicolon

For four-key play, read the lanes as left, down, up, right. That makes the default letter sequence A, S, W, D, rather than alphabetical order.

Check the Keybinds subtab whenever you want to inspect an individual arrow’s assignments. It lists the active inputs for that arrow, including any extra bindings you have added.

On console, Funky Friday supports the D-pad or XYBA controls.

Save and Equip Arrow Presets

After saving your edits, use Presets to keep a named arrow configuration available to equip later. These profiles cover your arrow customization, so give each one a name that helps you recognize its setup.

To create a preset:

  1. Open the Presets tab in Arrow Customization.
  2. Select the key mode whose configuration you want to save.
  3. Enter a name under Enter Preset Name.
  4. Select the green Save button.

Your profile appears in Saved Presets. Select Equip beside it to apply it, or Delete to remove it.

Save a familiar configuration before experimenting with different controls or arrow appearances. You can then equip that profile when you want to return to it.

Adjust Arrow Readability Alongside Your Layout

The same customization suite includes controls for arrow color, style, speed, and size. Adjust these alongside your bindings if the notes are difficult to follow.

  • Color: Change hue, saturation, color value, and transparency.
  • Style: Choose the arrows’ animation, direction, and appearance.
  • Settings: Adjust arrow speed, arrow size, lane offset, and height offset.
  • Notes: Customize the color and appearance of Death and Poison Notes.

Try 2.0 arrow speed as a starting point, then increase it if the notes feel too slow or decrease it if they feel too fast. Try 1.2 arrow size if you want larger notes. Keep lane offset and height offset at 0 while you work on the basic layout.

For a less distracting playfield, disable camera movement and note effects, and try middle scroll to center your gameplay. Enable the info bar and judgment statistics to watch accuracy, combo, and individual hit judgments while comparing configurations.

Keep the scroll direction you already know. If you are comfortable with upscroll, leave it enabled; if you use downscroll, keep that setting while learning your new bindings.
